SANTORUM TO PUERTO RICO: Speak English To Be A State

(Source Reuters):
If Puerto Rico wants to become a state, it needs to speak english, according to Rick Santorum.
The candidate was in the U.S. territory campaigning for more delegates in his race against, front
runner Mitt Romney. He was interviewed by El Vocero, a local newspaper, in which he supported
the indigenous right to self determination. His support for statehood however was conditional.
He could not support a state in which English was not the primary language. "English has to be
the principal language. There are other states with more than one language such as
Hawaii but to be a state of the United States, English has to be the principal
language".
In reality, the U.S. constitution does not designate an official language. Santorum's
words, will likely draw criticism from those within the GOP desirous of an improved
relationship with the Hispanic community. There has been no shortage of harsh words and
controversial policies, effecting Hispanics in general. Santorum's words will likely not help
improve the GOP's relationship with the latino community.

BLOWIN MONEY FAST: For Romney, Victory Comes At A Price!

Blowin Money Fast-isn't just a Rick Ross song, its also apparently, the motto of the Mitt Romney Campaign. Mitt Romney is the current front runner in the GOP race, however that success has come at a substantial premium. Mitt Romney has spent atleast 38 Million Dollars, outspending his competitors by several orders of magnitude. Newt Gingrich has spent approximately 9.7 million and Rick Santorum, who just bested Romney in 2 southern states, has only spent 6 million. Victory for Romney has come via the sheer force of his money. In Michigan, Romney's home state Mitt Romney barely garnered victory, with 41% of the vote compared to Santorums 38%. He also spent 4.3 million dollars in his home state, while Rick Santorum spent a relatively humble 2.3 million. The prize for outspending his opponent 2:1, was 2 more delegates than Santorum (Santorum received 14 delegates, Romney received 16 delegates). Romney has had to outspend his opponent by as much 10:1 (in Arizona) and on average he is outspending Rick Santorum by 6:1 (and 4:1 against Gingrich). For Romney victory seems possible, only when he can drown his opponents in cash, which raises questions about his viability in the general election. It is unlikely that Mitt Romney will be able to outspend President Obama in comparable ratios. The Obama Campaign is amassing a tremendous war chest and will likely match Romney, dollar for dollar-if GOP contributors can continue to generate the huge sums, required to make Romney an appealing candidate. The GOP is forced to ask how it can afford to go into battle with Mr. Romney as their standard bearer, when such massive funds are required to carry him over-even favorable finish lines. Earlier this week, Newt Gingrich called Mitt Romney, the weakest front runner since 1920. The evidence for his statement is found, in Mitt Romney's own campaign spending!

AMERICAN IDOL SCANDAL: Contestant Jermaine Jones Kicked Off

American Idol, just became a lot easier for the remaining contestants. The show's producers have decided to prematurely oust, Jermaine Jones. The contestant made it onto the show, by the skin of his teeth, but soon after, producers found the story of his life to be a total fabrication. The contestant told producers that he had been abandoned by his father. But then his father surfaced, blowing a whole in his story. Jones also claimed that he had never been arrested. Unfortunately, that is also untrue. The contestant, known as the gentle giant, on the show, was arrested twice last year, on charges involving violence and has outstanding warrants (according to TMZ). American Idol has maintained a puritanical stance on the image of its contestants, rarely tolerating blemishes of any kind. Jermaine Jones is apparently the victim of this policy and of his own lies!

RICK SANTORUM WINS 2 STATES: Romney Campaign Reeling, Gingrich Defiant!

Rick Santorum has dealt a serious blow to the Mitt Romney campaign. Santorum, has subsisted on nearly nonexistent campaign funds, while his primary opponent outspent him 3:1. Tonight, Santorum has scored two significant wins in the race for the GOP Primary. Alabama and Mississippi, held primaries today and both voted to support Rick Santorum. Mitt Romney, the much ballyhooed front runner, came in third in both races. But it's the Gingrich campaign that is most in peril by the Santorum Surge. Gingrich and Santorum have been splitting the conservative, anti-Romney vote in nearly every state. Their nearly equal split of the conservative block has created an open path for Mitt Romney to win the nomination. Pundits have suggested that if one of the two, were to drop out, Mitt Romney would face a nearly insurmountable wall of conservative opposition. In short, Mitt Romney's candidacy exists because the conservative block is not unified. Gingrich will soon face a chorus of conservative voices, demanding that he drop out of the race, in order to stop Mitt Romney. In a pre-emptive strike against such criticism, Gingrich was defiant and assured his supporters that he will not be exiting the race and that he would see them all in Tampa (this year's home of the Republican convention)! Tonight was a crushing blow for the Gingrich campaign and an anxiety inducing moment for the Romney camp. It's clear the Mitt Romney is not accepted by the traditional base of the GOP. If the Former Governor of the liberal state of Massachusetts, intends to attain victory in the conservative party, he will have to invent a new path towards victory!

SHAH'S OF SUNSET: Bravo TV Sheds Light On New Cultures

Ryan Seacrest brought us Kim Kardashian, then Denise Richards, Khloe and Lamar, and now Mr. Seacrest has blessed the world with the Shahs of Sunset. The new Bravo TV series will follow yet another elite-and fabulously wealthy, social circle. The twist this time, is that they are PERSIANS! Reality TV has joyously, blown the privacy windows off of African American culture, Italian American Culture, Housewife Culture, and even Southern Culture. Persian culture is largely unknown to most Americans. While SHAHS might immediately strike viewers as shallow and vapid, the Bravo show could be seen as broadening our collective cultural awareness. Ryan Seacrest could be the ultimate cultural ambassador, as the impresario of edu-tainment. However, it's unlikely that such lofty goals are on the minds of Bravo's producers. The SHAH'S OF SUNSET, is yet another opportunity to show, relatively young and hot people living an opulent and outrageously fun lifestyle. They spend money like it doesn't have to be earned. They drink and party like livers are replaceable. And that's what America wants to see. It is an utter escape from the hum-drum, consequence filled lives of most Americans. The show features characters like Golnesa, Dubbed The Persian Princess. She personifies beauty and excess. She's the show's gorgeous spit fire, looking for the love of her Persian Prince. Mike Shouhed is the show's player-with issues. The consummate bad boy, lost his very rich shirt in the Vegas real estate market, but is working to rebuild his Persian empire. Asa Rahmati - the Persian gypsy, is the show's artistic cast member. She breaks the mold of her community and challenges the taboos of her culture by (GASP) DATING OUTSIDE OF HER RACE (seriously, this is still a big deal in some communities?)! Challenging ALL of the traditions of Persian culture, is Reza Farahan-an openly gay real estate mogul, who longs for love-and more money. Mercedes and Sammy wrap up the cast as (yet more) real estate moguls. The show, follows all of their exploits and is likely to be a very entertaining ride.

All of the predictable rumors are swirling about but particular focus is converging on Berry's engagement ring. The ring, sports a four carrot emerald, hacked out of the mines of Columbia. The jewler that designed the one of a kind piece, has suggested that the ring is infused with hidden meaning and secret symbols, unknown to all but the love struck couple. Let's just hope that Halle, has finally found the fairy tale love she deserves!

GOP AT WAR IN SOUTH- GOP Primary Today!

The GOP WAR is entering the deep south today as the candidates will compete in dueling primaries in Alabama and Mississippi. Today's results will either give new life to the campaigns of Santorum and Gingrich, or they could signal the beginning of the end, for Mitt Romney. If Romney loses today's primaries, it will signal a definitive rejection by the deep southern core of the GOP. Political pundits have long speculated that Romney and his Mormon religion would prove unpalatable to southern voters. Today's contest will test the theory, once and for all. In the competing camps, a mixed record of success and defeat has left the Gingrich and Santorum campaigns at a loss to justify their continued existence in the GOP primary. A chorus of critics are beginning to charge that Santorum and Gingrich are dealing unnecessary blows to the party's presumptive nominee (Romney) as the path to victory for both competitors has transitioned from unlikely, to impossible. Romney is far ahead in the race for delegates, with 458 delegates, compared to Santorum's 203 and Gingrich's 118. The GOP primary has proven to be disastrous for Romney, exposing numerous weaknesses in the candidates profile. A series of flip-flops has created the impression that Romney is a candidate without a core. Romney now strains to justify his new-found opposition of policies that he once proposed. While the White-house has occasionally weighed in suggesting that Romney is less-than principled, the most blistering attacks have come from fellow conservative republicans. They have suggested that he is inauthentic, dishonest, and willing to pander (if not lie) to attain victory. It remains to be seen if the former Massachusetts Governor, will be able to recover from the crippling attacks of his fellow republicans. If the conservative tag team, of Gingrich and Santorum should fail to stop Romney in today's primary the chorus of criticism will become a cacophonous clamor, demanding that both end the bruising primary, before Romney suffers even more damage.

CNN RESTORES DISGRACED-ROLAND MARTIN

CNN has lifted the suspension of Roland Martin. The embattled pundit became the center of a firestorm when fans noticed a series of homophobic comments on his twitter feed. During the Superbowl, the political analyst responded to a David Beckham underwear commercial. He tweeted that men should "smack the ish" out of any of their male friends that enjoyed the Beckham ad. He made further comments about a football player that arrived at the game wearing pink. GLADD- an organization representing the Gay and Lesbian community, immediately demanded that CNN take action against Martin. Roland Martin suggested that he was making fun of soccer (and presumably it's fans) and not gays. CNN suspended the pundit which prompted Martin to meet with GLAAD and offer profuse statements of regret for perceived offenses. (Roland Martin is also the host of TV ONE'S Washington Watch- a show discussing politics and the African American Community)

Mario Batali is one of the most famous faces on the Food Network. He is also one of the most enduring personalities in the culinary world. He is known as the master of Italian cuisine and he became a household name through his line of cook ware and cook books. He owns some of the world's most famous restaurants from Singapore to Las Angeles. And he has recently settled a lawsuit that alleges that he and his business partner have been pilfering profits out of the tip jars of his lowest employees. The suit alleges that Batli's restaurants had a policy of skimming 4-5% from the tips at the end of every night. Below minimum wage salaries are common in the restaurant industry and wait staffs rely heavily on tips to make ends meat. Batali by contrast hosts, The Chew, a syndicated show on ABC. He is also an Iron Chef on one of the Food Network's most popular programs. It remains to be seen how these revelations will affect his popularity. However, the fact that the superstar chef would steal money from servers that make his culinary empire possible can't be good for business! Batali and his business partner, settled the lawsuit which represents over 1,100 employees, for 5.25 Million dollars. The sizable settlement, raises the question; How much Money Did Batali and his partner take from their poorest employees?

DON'T BLAME MICHAEL STEELE!

"Anybody But OBAMA" has been the mantra of the republican party. The phrase became the standard response for candidates and GOP voters alike. No matter how vociferously, the GOP candidates attacked each other, they were obligated to add the highly conditional qualifier; "Anybody But Obama"! Whereas, republican voters saw the phrase as a constant reminder of their unifying first priority, the GOP establishment saw it as a blanket permission to place their thumbs on the primary scales and pick the GOP nominee. When they heard the term "ANYBODY" they took it very literally. The result has been a systematic, disregard for the desires of the party's most loyal voters. In previous years this wouldn't have caused many problems in a party designed to cater to the demands of it's established hierarchy. But the rise of the Tea Party has disoriented the traditional dynamics of the republican party. The party's base felt empowered, and resented the pattern of neglect and disrespect. They were no longer willing to accept their traditional role as the faithful but dogged spouses of the party. Their complaints found a sympathetic ear, in Michael Steele who made more than a few modifications to the traditional primary schedule. He tilted the party's, generally stilted contests in favor of the base.

The RNC under the former Party Chairman, lengthened the schedule, and spaced out the contests in an effort to make them more responsive to the Party's loyalists. The changes worked precisely as planned. The base is having it's say, but that's starting to worry many in the GOP. They wanted a very traditional, tidy, and short contest. Instead they have been subjected to numerous debates, intense campaigning and emotionally invested supporters that have become unrelenting in support of their candidates. This is not at all-like, republicans! And if it all backfires on the GOP, Michael Steele will get the blame. Instead of faulting the flawed candidates, or even the hubris of an establishment that took the loyalty of it’s base for granted, Michael Steele will be vilified. The narrative will be that the gaffe prone Chairman, goofed up-again! HE cost US the Presidency! Fingers are already starting to be pointed his way and the frustrated supporters of Mitt Romney are already slamming Steele's reforms. Chris Christie, called Steele's reforms, "the dumbest idea anyone has ever had". The thankless job of party chairman has long since past from Steele's hands but the constant criticism that came with the title has not. Steele was never appreciated for the structural support he initiated that made the success of the Tea Party possible (Electoral sweeps don’t organize themselves) and now he will become the scapegoat for giving the Tea Party it's voice in the GOP primary.

NEW AALIYAH ALBUM: Set For Release

The loss of few artists could have been as impactful as the loss of Aaliyah! Few artists could merit the adulation, loyalty and sustained relevance of Aaliyah. After 11 years, her fans are still engrossed by her music and captivated by her style and beauty. And now, the loyalty of Aaliyah fans will be rewarded by the release of a new Album that will feature some of her last music. The new album is the work of Jefferey "J-Dub" Walker, a producer on Aaliyah's last album. Details on the album are sketchy at best but the album will apparently feature J-Dub himself (let's hope this isn't a personal project masquerading as an Aaliyah album). When the album will be released and how many original Aaliyah tracks will be on the album are unclear. Stay tuned, WORTHY MAGAZINE, will keep you informed of all developments!

ROMNEY INSPIRED OBAMA HEALTHCARE REFORM: Questions For GOP?

Recent reevaluations suggest that Mitt Romney hasn't been entirely truthful with voters. The former Governor of Massachusetts became a national leader, by reforming the healthcare system in his state. In the eyes of some, his healthcare reforms were the most successful policy update in generations. He mandated that every person in Massachusetts should have insurance; If they chose not to purchase insurance they would be subject to fines. This policy is called the dreaded healthcare mandate. Mr. Romney has at times, decried his own policy and suggested that the President should have consulted him on the "mistakes" that were made in the Massachusetts Reform. He has tried to suggest that the President's healthcare reform, which sports a similar mandate, is unconstitutional. He has also vowed to repeal "ObamaCare". However, a newly recovered OP-Ed in the USA Today, shows that in 2009, Mitt Romney implored the President to add a federally enforced healthcare mandate to his reforms (President Obama ran in opposition to the mandate). Romney suggested creating tax-consequences for those who refuse to purchase insurance. The glaring hypocrisy creates an intellectual pretzel that will be very difficult for Romney to relieve himself from. Given that Mitt Romney is largely known for his famous flip flops, this revelation will add to the perception that he lacks principle. But it should be noted that most Republicans were once advocates of forcing ALL Americans to purchase private insurance. However, when the idea became the stated policy of President Barack Obama, Republicans began repudiating the policy. Newt Gingrich, a 20 year advocate of Federal Insurance mandates began calling the policy socialism and the President a Radical Communist, for proposing the former GOP policy. The mandate was actually proposed by the GOP on three different occasions: twice in 1993, & 2007. In each case the bills were heavily co-sponsored by the GOP, who embraced the idea when it was conceptualized by the Heritage Foundation, which markets itself as "Ronald Reagans Favorite Think Tank".
The GOP should be asked to account for its blatant hypocrisy. The healthcare mandate is the source of President Obama's reform. By imposing the requirement on all americans, Obama creates the financial framework that makes it possible for insurance companies to cover Americans with Pre-existing conditions (such as children born with defects). It also provides subsidies that extend healthcare to 30 million more americans. The GOP proposed Obama's healthcare reform, in one way or another, for over 20 years. They did not indicate then, that it was socialistic, or contrary to the constitution. And the media should demand that republicans explain this recent epiphany. Mitt Romney is gaining a reputation for being unprincipled, but if he or the GOP are willing to oppose good ideas, simply for the sake of gaining power or criticizing the President, their actions are beyond cynical. We have reached an unfortunate place in our politics, in which parties have become obsessed with power. The only consistent principle seems to be opposing their opponents. And in the war between the political factions, the American people are becoming causalities.
